Report: Shine got $15M from Fox before joining White House
WASHINGTON - Bill Shine made more than $15 million in severance and bonuses from Fox News before taking a role at the White House as its top communication official, according to a report from CNBC.
The revelations came from a financial disclosure report, showing he made $8.4 million in severance and is due bonuses for the years 2018 and 2019 that are valued at about $3.5 million a year, according to CNBC, which obtained a copy of the form.
A veteran executive at Fox, Shine left in 2017 amid a scandal over sexual harassment complaints against former Fox chairman Roger Ailes. Shine has denied helping cover up complaints.
Police looking for gunman in deadly Alabama mall shooting
HOOVER, Ala. – Police in Alabama on Saturday were searching for a gunman whom they believe was responsible for shooting two teenagers at a shopping mall on Thanksgiving night.
The incident began with a fight and shooting in suburban Birmingham at the Riverchase Galleria, a mall crowded with Black Friday shoppers.
An 18-year-old was shot twice and a 12-year-old bystander was shot in the back.
An officer shot and killed 21-year-old Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr. of Hueytown.
Police said Bradford was fleeing and was brandishing a weapon.
Police initially said they thought Bradford had shot the teen but retracted that statement Friday night.
Coast Guard investigates boat hitting dock in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard is investigating what caused a ferry boat to crash twice into docks at San Francisco’s famed Ferry Building, slightly injuring two people aboard.
Coast Guard spokesman Chris Shih said Saturday that investigators are looking into factors that led to Friday’s crash.
The agency regularly inspects the ferries.
A Golden Gate Ferry spokeswoman says the boat was traveling from Larkspur and carrying 53 passengers when it struck an outer berth before bumping into another dock.
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Investigators haven’t been able to determine how an inmate and 23 staff members at a southern Ohio prison were exposed to and sickened by a mix of heroin and the potent painkiller fentanyl, the local prosecutor said.
Authorities couldn’t determine who brought the contraband drugs to Ross Correctional Institution and don’t have enough information to prosecute anyone for the August incident, Ross County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt told the Chillicothe Gazette.
Detention hearing set for brother of mansion fire victim
COLTS NECK, N.J. – The brother of one of the four homicide victims found at a burning New Jersey mansion is due in court on allegations he set fire to his own house.
A detention hearing for Paul Caneiro is scheduled for Wednesday. He’s charged with aggravated arson.
Monmouth County prosecutors say Caneiro set his Ocean Township home on fire while his family was inside. All safely escaped.
Prosecutors will seek to have him held until his trial. Caneiro’s attorney has said Caneiro is innocent.
Zimbabwe’s Mugabe no longer able to walk, president says
HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe’s 94-year-old former president Robert Mugabe is no longer able to walk as his health declines, his successor said Saturday.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa told ruling party supporters that Mugabe has been in a hospital in Singapore for the past two months.
“He can no longer walk but we will continue to take care of him,” said Mnangagwa, who took over from his former mentor a year ago.
