GE Global Operations is laying off 63 people from its Wauwatosa facility, 9900 Innovation Drive, beginning Jan. 12, according to a letter from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Dislocated Worker Program.

Most of the layoffs are in the accounts-receivable department. The entire facility will not be closed as a result of the layoffs.

Employees have been offered a job with a GE contractor; 53 people so far have accepted new jobs, according to the company.

In June, it was announced GE Healthcare would be spun off into a separate company as its struggling parent company takes steps to reshape its business.

The planned spin-off was part of a major restructuring announced by General Electric Co. to streamline its focus and strengthen its balance sheet.

GE Healthcare employs about 6,000 people in Wisconsin with operations in Milwaukee, Waukesha and Madison.

The company’s operations in the state include its imaging business unit, which makes MRI, C-T and PET scanners; ultrasound devices; bedside monitors; and incubators for neonatal intensive care units.

The spinoff will take 12-18 months to complete, GE Chairman and CEO John Flannery said in June on CNBC.

The announcement came after GE said it would sell its distributed power unit, which includes the former Waukesha Engine, to Advent International, a private-equity firm based in Boston, for $3.25 billion.

Ben Fox, director of global communications at GE, released the following statement Tuesday:

“As part of GE’s strategic plans announced this summer, Global Operations, GE’s shared services organization, has been reviewing its operations to better serve the company as efficiently as possible, including transitioning work and people to the GE businesses they currently serve, retaining them centrally within GE or partnering with third parties that complement specific services we provide. We continue to move forward with this plan, including notifications to employees that they may transfer to a GE businesses or may be offered positions with our third party strategic partner.”
