3 DON’T-MISS SHOWS THIS WEEK
BEIRUT
Style: Baroque pop from an act named after a city in Lebanon, via a songwriter from Santa Fe inspired by folk music from the Balkans.
Why you should go: Beirut’s Zach Condon returned to his roots on the gorgeous new album “Gallipoli.” A return to the band’s original sound, it was written on the same theater organ he used to write the first Beirut record. Opener: Experimental Latin folk artist Helado Negro.
Time and place: 8 p.m. Thursday, Pabst Theater, 144 E. Wells St.
Price: $32.50 at the box office, the Riverside Theater box office (116 W. Wisconsin Ave.), (414) 286-3663 and pabsttheater.org. — Piet Levy, plevy@journalsentinel.com
T-PAIN
Style: The continued return of Auto-Tune’d hiphop’s most celebrated Floridian. Why you should
go: Known as “Tallahassee Pain” for his experiences in his home city, Faheem “T-Pain” Najm was on more than 50 huge singles from 2006 to 2010, and the longdelayed 2017 album “Oblivion” proved his electronically gimmicked style still works. Touring to maintain the energy of 2018 — including a Fuse TV show and EDM collaborations — the man also will have, thanks to the forthcoming “1Up,” a substantial taste of new stuff.
Opener: DJ O, the official DJ for the Milwaukee
Bucks.
Time and place: 9 p.m. Friday, TARC Field House, Carthage College, 2001 Alford Park Drive, Kenosha.
Price: $10 to $18 at the box office, (262) 551-6661
and carthage.edu/fine-arts/tickets. — Jon M. Gilbertson, Special to the Journal Sentinel
ASHLEY MCBRYDE
Style: A honkytonk angel who resembles someone at the farm next door.
Why you should
go: In 2007, Ashley McBryde followed her hopes from Arkansas to Nashville. She won the Country Showdown competition in 2009 and 2010 and issued her own albums before nods from the likes of Eric Church upped her profile. Her first majorlabel LP, “Girl Going Nowhere,” came out in 2018, and her first big single, “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega,” isn’t the only track to showcase full-grown lungs and songwriting grit that could put McBryde up there with Lambert et al.
Time and place: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rave, 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Price: $14 and $19 at location, (414) 342-7283,
etix.com and therave.com. — Jon M. Gilbertson
