Authoritie­s recover body from tractor-trailer submerged in Sauk County lake

A tractor-trailer submerged in Mirror Lake was recovered late Sunday afternoon, and authoritie­s confirmed one death and one occupant presumed missing.

Because of poor visibility and weather conditions, recovery operations were suspended until Monday morning, the state Department of Transporta­tion said in a news release.

All eastbound lanes of I-90/94 were closed Sunday morning and afternoon after authoritie­s found a damaged guardrail on the interstate just north of the Mirror Lake bridge in Sauk County around 7:30 a.m. and discovered the tractor-trailer submerged in the lake, the release said. Crews worked throughout the day to recover the semi.

Motorist hits squad car at crash scene, injures two Milwaukee County deputies

Two Milwaukee County sheriff 's deputies were injured when a motorist struck their squad car at a crash scene Sunday.

Both deputies suffered non-life threatenin­g injuries. The deputy sitting in the passenger seat was treated at Milwaukee County Regional Medical Center and released; the deputy in the driver's seat did not need medical treatment.

The accident happened at 9:21 a.m. when a motorist slammed into the squad as it blocked one of the southbound lanes of Interstate 43 at Port Washington Road near the Ozaukee County border. The deputies were guarding a crash scene.

A civilian sitting in the back seat of the squad car was not injured.

The accident was investigat­ed by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department, which issued a citation for driving too fast for conditions to the motorist who hit the squad car.

Port Washington woman, 64, dies after car veers off I-43 in Grafton

A 64-year-old Port Washington woman was pronounced dead after her car veered off I-43 Saturday afternoon, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Sunday.

The woman was driving a minivan northbound on I-43 just north of the state Highway 60 on-ramp in Grafton when the car veered to the right and left the road. The crash occurred about 4:40 p.m. The car was about 30 yards east of I-43 on its roof.

The Sheriff's Office asks that anyone who witnessed the crash call (262) 284-7172.
