Man kills mother of his child, himself in Brown County
SUAMICO - Two people are dead after a shooting stemming from a child custody dispute.
Authorities were called at 2:22 a.m. Monday to a home in Suamico by a woman who reported that her daughter had been shot in the head and the gunman had shot himself in the driveway.
The victim, Brooke Fontaine, 34, was taken to a hospital, where she died of a head wound.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office investigators also found Sebastian D. Royal, 28, of Milwaukee dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Brown County Sheriff’s Capt. David Poteat said the shooting stemmed from a custody dispute involving Fontaine and Royal’s 14-month-old son. Royal had previously failed to appear for a hearing in Outagamie County Circuit Court.
Poteat said Royal first fired several shots from outside the home into the bedroom of another child, age 4. Fontaine’s mother was sleeping in the same room and covered the child when Royal began firing.
Fontaine ran into the child’s bedroom, saw Royal through a window and began yelling at him to stop.
Royal then shot Fontaine in the head, the the sheriff ’s office said. Neither child was injured.
Royal then killed himself in the driveway.
Royal recorded “an apology and explanation” for his son on Facebook before the shooting, Poteat said. In the message, Royal said he was going to “do what was fair.”
Royal was previously known as Demitrius D. Moore, authorities said.
