Coleman Hawkins is a sweet-shooting, 6-foot-8 forward from Prolific Prep (California) who is a three-star recruit in the 2020 class according to 247Sports.com.

Marquette offered Hawkins a scholarship in May. He took an unofficial visit to MU's campus in late June. He also took an official visit to Rutgers early in June.

Here is a quick look at Hawkins after a conversation this week.

• He was born in Sacramento, California, but he has family connections to the Midwest.

"My dad is from Chicago. His family lives out there. He's got a huge family," Hawkins said.

• His father's uncle, Tommy Hawkins, was an All-American at Notre Dame in the late 1950s. He was drafted by the Lakers and played 10 seasons in the NBA. He still holds the Notre Dame record for career rebounds with 1,318. Tommy Hawkins died in 2017.

• Here is how Hawkins describes his game:

"I play the strech four. I stretch the floor on offense. I like making my teammates better. I share the ball really well, in my opinion. I shoot the three, run the floor very well. Block shots. Whatever the coach tells me to do, I can do. I'm just a team player."

• Hawkins is teammates at Prolific Prep with Nimari Burnett, a dynamic guard in the 2020 class who MU is also recruiting.

Burnett took an unofficial visit to MU in June 2018. He didn't give his teammate any information about the school before Hawkins' visit.

"I never talked to him about it," Hawkins said with a laugh.

• Here are Hawkins' general thoughts on MU:

"Big name. It's kind of a smaller school, but you can tell from the people they have in their program that people are here to work. The whole coaching staff, everyone is there to get better, develop the players. That's what seemed like their focus was, to develop players. Make sure everybody is healthy, being healthy is a big part of how the season plays out."

• Hawkins had a quick tour.

"We got there, I want to say, around 11 (a.m.) Went over to Fiserv Forum, took a little tour over there.

"Got back, ate a little bit. Just hung around and gave me more tours of the facility, did a little photo shoot.

"Talked to the player development coach (Todd Smith). Gave me and my friend some tools to look out for and things we need to know before we go to college and what our bodies go through and what's important to our bodies.

"Then after that, watched a quick workout, there was only six guys on campus. You can tell it was intense, everyone is there to get better. No one is slacking. Just competing."

"After the workout, we walked around a bit. Showed us an apartment. Showed us everything you can see on an unofficial visit. You can't do all of it. After that, we hit the road. It was a cool place to be."

• He was impressed with MU's locker room at Fiserv Forum.

"Saw a lot of Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade stuff," he said.

• What's next for Hawkins?

"I believe I'll be going to Boise State and San Diego State in August. And I just talked to (MU assistant) coach Stan Johnson. We're trying to go first week of September, get back on campus for an official back at Marquette."

• Hawkins does not have a timeline for making his commitment, seeing how the summer travel season and his future visits go.

Evaluation window: This is a big week for NCAA coaches with a live evaluation period running Thursday through Sunday and several high-profile, shoe-sponsored events that they can attend to scout prospects.

The two biggest will be the EYBL Peach Jam for Nike AAU teams in Augusta, Georgia, and Adidas' Gauntlet Summer Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.

MU will have multiple coaches at each event.

Hawkins will be playing in Alabama with Dream Vision AAU. Dawson Garcia, a top 2020 MU target, will play for D1 Minnesota in that event.

Burnett will be playing in the Peach Jam with Team Why Not. MU coaches will also be watching R.J. Davis, a fastrising 2020 guard who took an unofficial visit last month. He plays for the New York Rens.
