POLO, Mo. - Human remains have been discovered on a Missouri property over one week after two Shawano County brothers disappeared there during a business trip.

Nicholas Diemel, 34, and Justin Diemel, 24, haven’t been heard from since July 21, when they traveled to Clinton and Caldwell counties in Missouri to meet with farmers. The two own Diemel’s Livestock in Navarino.

Clinton County Sheriff Larry Fish said during a press conference Wednesday that investigators found human remains at a search site near Braymer, Missouri, in Caldwell County. Officials have not yet identified the remains, discovered Tuesday, or determined a cause of death.

Authorities last week shifted the investigation from a search and rescue to a death investigation. Fish provided little other information Wednesday, but did tell a reporter the remains were found on the farm of 25-year-old Garland Nelson, who is charged with vehicle tampering in connection to the case.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Nelson admitted to driving and abandoning a rental truck used by the Diemels after they visited his Braymer farm for a business deal. Nelson is jailed in the Caldwell County Detention Center without bond and scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a bond hearing.

Caldwell County court documents indicate Nelson will appear for the hearing via video “for the security and safety of the defendant, and to minimize the risk of absconding.”

Meanwhile, Nicholas’ wife, Lisa Diemel, filed petitions Tuesday in Shawano County Circuit Court asking to be appointed as a special administrator to manage the brothers’ business assets “until full probate administration can be commenced.”
