New Jersey tailback Berger signs with Badgers
Wisconsin football coach Paul Chryst and his staff finalized the 2020 class Wednesday with a player who committed to UW late in the cycle.
That player: New Jersey tailback Jalen Berger, who announced his commitment Jan. 4 while at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
Berger, for those who follow the star system, has been given four stars by 247 Sports, ESPN and Rivals.
He rushed for 840 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 111 carries, an average of 7.6 yards per carry, as a senior at Don Bosco Prep.
He also caught 27 passes for 357 yards (13.2 yards per catch), and four touchdowns.
Berger gives UW 20 scholarship players for the 2020 class, though he is the lone tailback in the class.
Berger had offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Florida and several other programs.
Wisconsin also added four walk-ons Wednesday:
Inside linebacker Ross Gengler (Delavan-Darien HS), offensive lineman Kerry Kodanko (West DePere HS), outside linebacker Riley Nowakowski (Marquette) and kicker Jack Van Dyke (Neenah). Seven members of the Badgers' 26man signing class joined the program as mid-year enrollees in January.
They are outside linebacker Nick Herbig, offensive lineman Jack Nelson, offensive lineman Dylan Barrett, “athlete” Chimere Dike who will reportedly begin at wide receiver, defensive end Cade McDonald, inside linebacker Jordan Turner and inside linebacker Preston Zachman.
