Country superstar Hunt headed for Summerfest
Sam Hunt is finally heading back to Milwaukee, to headline Summerfest’s American Family Insurance Amphitheater June 26.
The country superstar Wednesday announced a North American summer tour, and his long-anticipated sophomore album “Southside,” which will drop April 3. Kip Moore, Ernest, Travis Denning and DJ Brandi Cyrus will be his openers.
Hunt’s debut album, the triple-platinum “Montevallo,” was a gamechanger for country music after it came out in 2014, heavily incorporating elements of R&B that inspired several country acts that emerged in its wake.
Hunt swiftly sold out the Rave’s Eagles Ballroom in April 2015, and he’s released a handful of singles over the years, including the massive smash “Body Like a Back Road” in 2017. But he had yet to release an album, or to come back to Milwaukee.
Tickets for the Summerfest show are available beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Maier Festival Park south gate box office or visiting ticketmaster.com.
Prices have yet to be announced, but they will include Summerfest general admission June 26. Presales begin Feb. 11.
Hunt is the eighth amphitheater show announced for Summerfest 2020, taking place June 24 to 28 and June 30 to July 5.
The lineup so far, in addition to Hunt: Justin Bieber with Kehlani and Jaden Smith June 24; Luke Bryan with Morgan Wallen June 25; Chris Stapleton with Sheryl Crow June 30; Ozzy Osbourne with Marilyn Manson July 1; Dave Matthews Band July 2; Halsey with Chvrches and Omar Apollo July 3; and Guns N’ Roses July 4.
The amphitheater, set to open in June following a $53 million reconstruction, will also host at least five shows outside of the Big Gig: Hall & Oates with Squeeze and KT Tunstall July 26; the Black Crowes Aug. 22; Nickelback with Stone Temple Pilots and Switchfoot Aug. 27; Maroon 5 with Meghan Trainor Aug. 30; and KISS with David Lee Roth Sept. 15.
