Player of the week

Aaleyah Jones, Milwaukee Riverside:

The junior guard led the Tigers to victories over Milwaukee Vincent and Milwaukee Languages to help them clinch a tie for second with Languages in the City Conference Gold Division. Jones had 30 points against Languages, hitting nine of 13 shots, including five of seven from three-point range. Add her shooting numbers in a 79-33 win over Vincent on Tuesday and she closed out conference play shooting 74% (14 of 19) for the week, 75% (9 for 12) from three-point range.

Teams of the week

Milwaukee Marshall

The Eagles wrapped up an undefeated season in the Milwaukee City Conference Blue Division with victories over Bay View on Wednesday and Golda Meir on Friday. Sophomores Alvi Badberry, Tamera Boyd and Dyona Coleman have been the team’s top scorers, a trend that continued. Against Bay View, Boyd scored 22 points followed by Coleman (17) and Badberry (16). Against Golda, Badberry had 26 points and Boyd finished with 18 as the Eagles finished the regular season 16-5 overall and earned a No. 4 seed in Division 2.

Germantown

The Warhawks sewed up the title in what has been the area’s best league this season, the Greater Metro, by scoring wins over Sussex Hamilton on Friday and Brookfield East on Tuesday to win the league championsh­ip by one game. In the clincher, freshman guard Kamorea Arnold, who led Germantown with 14 points in a 64-44 win over East, had a team-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Natalie McNeal posted 18 points and 16 rebounds for her second doubledoub­le of the week and junior guard Jaelyn Acker recorded 13 points and seven steals. Germantown finished the GMC season 15-1 for the second straight year.

Coming up

The WIAA tournament begins this week. The competitio­n doesn’t usually heat up until the regional finals Saturday. If the seedings play out, here are some of the more intriguing match-ups:

Division 1 West Bend West at Brookfield Central: The North Shore champion visits the Lancers, who finished fourth in the Greater Metro and played one of the area’s toughest schedules.

Oak Creek at Kettle Moraine: The Southeast Conference champion hits the road to face a young Lasers squad that finished tied for third in the Classic 8.

Sussex Hamilton at Milwaukee King:

This will be a rematch of a Jan. 24 meeting King won, 66-61.

Arrowhead at Oconomowoc: The teams split two games with each team protecting its home court. The last meeting went to Arrowhead, 62-43, on Feb. 14.

Division 2

South Milwaukee at Pewaukee: South Milwaukee will try to snap a run of three straight season-ending losses to the Pirates.

Division 3 Brookfield Academy at Ozaukee: The Midwest Classic champion visits the runner-up of the Big East South.
