CAMP REPORT

- Todd Rosiak

On the field: Brett Anderson’s return from the flu bug didn’t go great, as he allowed four hits, three runs and a walk with two strikeouts in 22⁄3 innings. Then Brent Suter surrendered a pair of fourth-inning homers as the Rangers opened a seven-run lead in an eventual 11-2 victory over the Brewers at American Family Fields of Phoenix on Saturday.

Orlando Arcia’s solo home run in the sixth got Milwaukee on the board as the Brewers managed just six hits.

Weather: 81 degrees and sunny.

Scoreboard: Rangers 11, Brewers 2. Record: 7-5-2. Sunday: Sunday: Brewers vs. Angels (ss), 3:05 p.m. CDT. Milwaukee RHP Shelby Miller vs. RHP Matt Andriese. Radio: 94.5-FM. Brewers at A’s (ss), 3:05 p.m. CDT. Milwaukee RHP Adrian Houser vs. Oakland RHP Frankie Montas. No broadcast.

Cactus juice: Just over two weeks into the Cactus League season, Ryan Braun will become the last healthy Brewers player to see action when he serves as designated hitter against the Angels on Sunday.

“Frankly, I never have any concerns about Ryan having enough at-bats,” manager Craig Counsell said. “It’s more about getting in the field enough. It’s really the nine innings of play that starts when the regular season starts.” Braun is also moving out of his comfort zone this season, playing in right field and at first base rather than his usual spot in left.

“I would say half and half (between infield and outfield),” Counsell said.

Countdown: 18 days until the Brewers’ season opener on March 26 vs. the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park.
