Third Summerfest headliner postpones to 2021

- Piet Levy

A third Summerfest headliner booked for 2020 has rescheduled for 2021.

Chris Stapleton announced Monday that his All-American Road Show tour will be bumped back to next year. The tour was supposed to stop at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater during Summerfest June 30, with opening act Sheryl Crow. It will now take place during Summerfest next year, on July 8, 2021. Crow is still on the bill.

Previously purchased tickets will be honored, and refunds for tickets bought through ticketmaster.com will be available for the next 30 days. Refunds for tickets purchased in cash will be available once the Summerfest box office reopens.

Two other Summerfest amphitheater shows booked for this year, with Dave Matthews Band and Halsey, previously postponed their tours to 2021. They will play Summerfest on July 1 and July 3 next year, respectively.

In March, Summerfest officials announced that the festival this year would move, from June 24 to July 5, to Sept. 3 to 5, 10 to 12 and 17 to 19.

So far, only one amphitheater headliner has rescheduled for the new dates: Sam Hunt, scheduled to play Summerfest Sept. 4.

Five other amphitheater acts booked for Summerfest this year, including Justin Bieber and Guns N’ Roses, have yet to announce if they’ll play the Milwaukee festival this September.

Milwaukee native Steve Miller, set to play Summerfest’s BMO Harris Pavilion, canceled his summer tour dates for 2021. Six other Summerfest headliners booked for the pavilion have yet to announce if they’ll play the festival in September.

Summerfest officials were also set to unveil the upgraded amphitheater this year, following a two-year, $53 million renovation.

Eight shows were booked at the amphitheater outside of Summerfest, but last week, two concerts dropped out: Country duo Sugarland canceled their July 25 appearance, while Maroon 5, originally booked for Aug. 30 at the amphitheater, postponed its tour to 2021, with new dates to be announced.
