Outlaws stop moved ahead

- Dave Kallmann

Coronavirus continues to alter the Wisconsin motor sports calendar, but a change Friday went in a different direction from what fans might expect.

The World of Outlaws date at Beaver Dam Raceway in June has been canceled and replaced by a two-day, limited-seating event June 5-6.

Instead of being put on by SLS Promotions – as the June 20 race would have been – the new Beaver Dam Bash program will be promoted by World Racing Group, which owns the traveling sprint-car series.

Consequently, SLS will be automatically refunding tickets sold in advance online or over the phone. It could take a full billing cycle for the refund to be applied to a customer’s credit card, SLS said.

Tickets for the new event will go on sale at 9 a.m. Tuesday at WorldofOutlaws.com.

Participants and fans will have their temperatures taken and be asked to fill out a health questionnaire. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Face coverings are recommended but will not be mandatory in the grandstand.

In promoting the race itself, World Racing Group can take advantage of its subscription and pay-perview DirtVision streaming service. An independent promoter would be reliant on revenue from spectators onsite, which are limited by local social-distancing guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Outlaws originally were scheduled to race in North Dakota and Minnesota on the June 5-6 weekend. The two-day Beaver Dam event replaces those, plus the track’s own June 20 date and a race in Dubuque, Iowa.
