What do John Lithgow and Bay Beach Amusement Park have in common? “Perry Mason.”

A trailer for the upcoming HBO limited series about the famed criminal defense attorney features “The Scat,” a song from Milwaukee musician Trapper Schoepp’s 2017 album “Bay Beach Amusement Park.” It’s one of five songs on the six-track concept album that tells the story of a ride at the 128year-old Green Bay park.

Schoepp, who released the album for Bay Beach’s 125th anniversary, shared the news on his social media.

“A few years ago I saw a boy having a terrible time on an amusement park ride called ‘The Scat.’ Now that boy’s bad time is all over this trailer for the Perry Mason reboot. Weird,” he wrote.

The song’s dark, moody feel suits the HBO noir starring Matthew Rhys in the title role. Schoepp told the Green

Bay Press-Gazette in 2017 that the song’s lyrics came from watching a kid on the classic ride as he kept repeating, “I feel weird. I feel numb. I wish this would end.”

The Scat has been a fixture at the park since 1985. Riders are strapped in, standing up against the walls of two large baskets that spin with such speed that riders feel plastered against the sides.

“Perry Mason” premieres June 21. Set in 1932 in Los Angeles during the Great Depression, the drama focuses on Mason as he’s just getting started in his career, working as a low-rent private detective. Lithgow and Tatiana Maslany also star in the series from executive producer Robert Downey Jr.
