3 restaurants leave Mequon food hall

- Jeff Rumage

Three popular Milwaukee restaurants are leaving the Mequon Public Market.

Bavette, Bowls and Beans & Barley, which closed when the coronavirus pandemic hit, will not reopen in the Mequon food hall.

The restaurants have decided to focus on their Milwaukee locations, according to Cindy Shaffer, developer of the Mequon Public Market.

Shaffer said the businesses were open only eight months when the coronavirus pandemic struck.

“While we are sad to see them go, we are pleased with the response we have had for the space and have leases out for all three,” Shaffer said.

Despite the pandemic, Shaffer said many Mequon Public Market vendors experienced record sales in recent months.

“While no one could have expected a pandemic in their first year, all of us at Spur 16 and the Mequon Public Market are optimistic and encouraged as we enter our second year serving the Mequon community,” Shaffer said.

The Mequon Public Market is part of the Spur 16 development, which is hosting an Outdoor Makers Market event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. Products range from produce, honey and flower to gift items, such as textiles, jewelry and handmade creations.

The Mequon Public Market’s outdoor patio is open for customers. The following businesses are open for takeout and curbside delivery: Cafe Corazon, Screaming Tuna, Santorini Grill, Purple Door Ice Cream, Anodyne Coffee, Happy Dough Lucky Mini Donuts and La Terre, a floral and gift shop.
