No fans at first golf major

-

Brooks Koepka will try to become the first player to win the PGA Championship three straight times in stroke play, and there won’t be anyone at Harding Park to cheer him on.

The PGA of America confirmed Monday the first major of this most unusual year won’t have spectators.

The PGA Championship, originally scheduled for May 14-17 in San Francisco, now is set for Aug. 6-9 and will be the first of three majors this year. The U.S. Open moved from June to Sept. 17-20 in New York, with the Masters moving to November two weeks before Thanksgiving. The British Open was canceled.

Still to be determined is whether the other two majors have fans.

BASKETBALL

Alex Antetokounmpo is taking his talents to Spain. The former Dominican High School standout and younger brother of Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo announced Monday that he signed with Spanish club UCAM Murcia.

According to reports, the contract is for three years and including NBA out clauses every summer.

Murcia plays in the Liga ACB, the top professional basketball division in Spain.

Marc and Pau Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Serge Ibaka and Jose Calderon are among the NBA players who got their careers started in the league. Former Wauwatosa East standout and Bucks guard Tony Smith also played in the league.

NBA

Washington Wizards forward Davis Bertans will skip the Disney-based resumption of the NBA season, making him the first known example of a healthy, eligible player sitting out.

Bertans can become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and is expected to command a big contract as a top three-point shooter.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Cade Cunningham, one of the nation’s top basketball recruits, has chosen to remain at Oklahoma State despite the program being banned from the 2021 postseason. Cunningham won the Naismith High School Trophy given to the nation’s best player. The 6-foot-7 point guard was the key piece of a highly ranked class.

Earlier this month, an NCAA infractions committee panel handed down numerous penalties related to findings that former assistant coach Lamont Evans accepted up to $22,000 in bribes.
