DHS reports 522 more cases, no new deaths

State health officials reported 522 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 but no new coronaviru­s-related deaths on Sunday.

The positive cases account for 10.4% of the 4,996 tests processed since Saturday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The daily positivity rate — a key indicator of the disease’s overall prevalence — was often below 3% during the first half of June but ticked up recently, fueled in part by an increase in cases of people in their 20s.

As of Sunday, 24% of the confirmed cases were for people between 20 and 29 years old, according to DHS.

The number of tests coming back positive continues to increase a day after DHS reported the most ever cases in a single day on Saturday, 738.

As of Sunday, 31,577 people have tested positive for the virus; 5,877 of those cases remain active while 79% of people have recovered from COVID-19.

There were 244 people in hospitals with known cases of the virus as of Sunday. Of those, 65 were in intensive care. An additional 129 hospital patients were awaiting coronaviru­s test results, according to the Wisconsin Hospital Associatio­n.

The number of people who died remained at 796 Sunday.

More than 584,100 people in Wisconsin have tested negative for COVID-19.

Global cases have surpassed 11 million, and deaths neared 531,000 as of mid-Sunday, according to Johns Hopkins University.
