COVID-19 cases spike to 10.3% with 830 new cases reported since Saturday
State health officials reported 830 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one new coronavirus-related death.
The positive cases account for 10.3% of the 8,089 tests processed since Saturday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. The daily positivity rate, a key indicator of the disease’s overall prevalence, fell below 3% during the first half of June but ticked up recently.
The positivity rate is the highest percentage of tests to come back positive in the past two weeks. The second highest day recently was 10.1% on July 12.
The number of tests coming back positive continues to increase a day after DHS reported the most ever cases in a single day on Saturday at 978.
As of Sunday, 42,315 people tested positive for the virus; 8,838 of those cases remain active, while 77.1% of people have recovered from COVID-19.
There were 339 people in hospitals with known cases of the virus as of Sunday. Of those, 99 were in intensive care. An additional 139 hospital patients were awaiting coronavirus test results, according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
A majority of counties were reported to have “high” COVID-19 activity in the state Health Department’s weekly ratings that are announced Wednesday. The ratings are based on a combination of total new cases per 100,000 people over the past two weeks and the percent change in new cases between the past seven days and the seven days before that.
