One man has drowned and another swimmer is missing in two separate incidents Saturday.

In Milwaukee, a 19-year-old man drowned Saturday night at McKinley Beach trying to help two family members get to shore, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

Scott Stiff, sheriff 's office spokesman, said deputies received a call at 8:41 p.m. on Saturday about a person in distress in the water.

Jvarius Bankhead was wading in the water with two young relatives when they started having difficulty getting to shore due to the size of the waves, Stiff said.

Bankhead went farther into the water to help the children and was able to get one of them to shore safely, Stiff said. The other child was able to make it to shore as well, but Bankhead was swept underwater.

The Milwaukee Fire Department's Dive Rescue Team and Milwaukee Police Department assisted in the search for the 19-year-old.

Bankhead received life-saving measures before being transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The children were unharmed and neither required medical attention.

Meanwhile, in Waukesha County, responders were searching for a man who was swimming in Pewaukee Lake around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Village of Pewaukee Police Chief Timothy Heier said three people were swimming near their boat when a 22year-old man became distressed, went underwater and did not resurface.

The recovery operation was still ongoing as of late Sunday afternoon and involved Pewaukee Lake Patrol, Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, Pewaukee Fire Department, Western Lake Fire Department and the Town of Delafield Fire Department dive and rescue unit.
