Giants planning to cut kicker Rosas
The New York Giants are going to release 2018 Pro Bowl placekicker Aldrick Rosas, a source said Sunday.
The person said the team is not ready to announce the move but reports the 25-year-old would not be back with the Giants were accurate. NFL Network was first to report the transaction.
Rosas was arrested in mid-June after being involved in a hit-and-run accident in Chico, California. He was charged with three misdemeanors.
The police report said his SUV failed to stop at a red light and collided with a pick-up truck. Rosas left the scene on foot but was later picked up by police and charged with misdemeanor hitand-run and driving with a suspended license.
Rosas had signed a $3.2 million tender offer for the 2020 season.
Rosas has been the Giants placekicker since 2017. He made the Pro Bowl after making 32 of 33 field goal attempts in 2018. He struggled last season, hitting 12 of 17 field goal attempts.
It is not clear what the Giants intend to do with cornerback DeAndre Baker, the third of their three first-round picks in 2019.
He was arrested in May on armed robbery charges involving the alleged theft of more than $12,000 in cash and several luxury watches at a card party. He pleaded innocent.
Zimmer says Cook will report: The Minnesota Vikings are expecting running back Dalvin Cook to report on time for training camp, coach Mike Zimmer said.
Cook has begun the final year of his rookie contract. The 2019 Pro Bowl pick took a break from the virtual offseason program last month, seeking a new deal, but Zimmer said on a video conference call to discuss his contract extension that Cook told him he'd be present in Minnesota next week. Veterans are scheduled to arrive Tuesday for coronavirus testing.
Cook's agent, Zac Hiller, said that his client has not spoken to Zimmer about reporting to camp.
Cook, a second-round draft pick in 2017, would delay his eligibility for unrestricted free agency by a year if he were to hold out from training camp based on a provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. Cook will make a base salary of slightly more than $1.3 million this season. He had 1,135 rushing yards and 519 receiving yards in 14 games last year.
Bears, Dolphins swing deal: Tight end Adam Shaheen was traded to the Miami Dolphins by the Chicago Bears for a conditional late-round draft pick.
Shaheen was slowed by injuries in his three seasons with the Bears, starting games and catching four touchdown passes. His roster spot with the team in 2020 was in jeopardy. In Miami, he'll compete with Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe.
Chicago took Shaheen in the second round of the 2017 draft.
