Former northwest side nursing home to be converted to apartments

- Tom Daykin

A former nursing home on Milwaukee's northwest side will be converted into supportive apartments by its new owner.

The 53-bed Villa at Millway, 8534 W. Mill Road, was purchased Tuesday by Prism Investments LLC for $925,000, said Anthony Kazee, whose KG Development Group LLC is involved in the project.

Prism plans to spend $1.4 million on converting the one-story, 23,000square-foot building into into 30 apartments. Those units will be leased to people who need supportive housing, Kazee said. Such apartments are often set aside for people who are homeless, and have mental illnesses or other special needs.

Those renovations are to begin in October and should wrap up in May, he said.

The project is expected to create 32 jobs at the housing community over the next three years, Kazee said.

Financing for the development is to include a shared loan from Milwaukee Economic Development Corp. and Northwest Side Community Development Corp.

Millway in November 2017 announced it would close the following spring after relocating its residents.

The nursing home's owners said it wouldn't be financially feasible to continue its operations.

The property was listed with Founders 3 Real Estate Services.

KG Development's other projects include a proposed 57-unit affordable apartment development at the northwest corner of North King Drive and West Concordia Avenue in Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood.
