With no concerts, Riverside Theater hosting ghost tours, hunts in October

- Piet Levy

Like most concert venues across the country, the Riverside Theater has been largely unoccupied since March. Except, perhaps … by ghosts. In October, the Riverside, 116 W. Wisconsin Ave., will host ghost tours, and a couple of ghost hunts, as music and comedy tours continue to remain off the road due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Between the catastrophic fire of 1966, reoccurring floods and rumors of a sordid past, the Riverside Theater has been a source of intrigue in the paranormal world for the past 91 years,” Pabst Theater Group said in a statement. “The tours will be led by experienced ghost hunters and will feature eerie audio clips from past ghost hunts, spine-tingling tales of other worldly encounters and an inside look at ‘hot spots’ in the theater that aren’t normally open to the public.”

The standard “Riverside Theater Ghost Tour” will be conducted Fridays and Saturdays from Oct. 9 to 31, and on Thursday, Oct. 29. The hourlong tour includes bar service availability before and after it begins.

The Riverside is also hosting a “Late

Night Ghost Hunt” on Oct. 30 and 31. The three-hour experience, from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. each night, will begin with a medium conducting a seance on stage. Guests also will have access to “ghost hunting equipment,” according to a press release, including digital voice recorders, infrared thermometers, and a spirit box.

Each tour will be limited to 10 guests or fewer, and all participants will be required to wear a mask. Private tours are also available.

Ghost tours are $25, while tickets to the ghost hunts are $150. Tickets and more information can be found at
