RNC Chairwoman McDaniel rallies volunteers in Germantown
GERMANTOWN - Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel indicated Friday that Wisconsin is going to be seeing even more of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence ahead of the November election.
“We’re going to be in your state all the time,” she told volunteers at a Republican Party office.
Less than 24 hours after the president’s Thursday night rally in Mosinee, McDaniel was in Wisconsin to tour campaign offices and salute the party’s volunteers.
Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have kept up a steady travel schedule to Wisconsin. Pence is headed to Eau Claire Monday for his third appearance in Wisconsin in as many weeks.
Even though polls show Trump trailing Democrat Joe Biden among likely voters, McDaniel remains confident that Republicans can win here in the fall.
“In 2016, the RNC internals had President Trump doing much better in states like Wisconsin and Michigan up until election day than any of the national or state polls,” she said. “We are continuing to see that trend. Our internals look much better. We have the president winning in Wisconsin. We feel very good about this state.
“That’s why you’re continuing to see us show up and we’ll be pushing to turn out our vote to make sure we win this state on election Day,” she added.
While the high-profile appearances by the candidates are designed to boost support, Republicans have banked a lot on the state party’s strong turnout operation to get voters to the polls and help Trump repeat his victory in Wisconsin.
“I will just tell you the enthusiasm on the ground I am seeing in your state is like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” she told the volunteers.
McDaniel told reporters that in Wisconsin, Republicans have “just passed 9 million voter contacts.”
“It’s ramping up more and more through phones and door knocks,” she said. “We’re going to continue to get out the vote. And also reach out to those voters we think can change and switch as we talk about issues. But the door knock is so impactful because it’s neighbor to neighbor. You’re able to have conversations outside of the media and the narrative and really personalize why you’re voting for President Trump.”
McDaniel gave campaign volunteer Rich Thom a Make America Great Again cap that was signed by the president.
Thom, a machinist from Menomonee Falls, has reached voters in around 3,000 homes as he canvasses neighborhoods for the Trump campaign.
“That’s what it’s all about, getting face-to-face contact with voters,” Thom said.
Since the pandemic, Thom said he takes precautions, including social distancing.
“Nobody has a problem,” he said. “I always take a step back.”
