WIAC sports suspended
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has suspended its winter sports season through Dec. 31, the conference announced Friday afternoon.
The decision affects men’s and women’s basketball, women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and wrestling.
UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stout, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls and UW-Whitewater make up the WIAC.
Student-athletes in some winter sports championships had their 2020 seasons canceled when the coronavirus pandemic struck hard in March. The WIAC fall season was suspended this summer.
The WIAC Council of Chancellors unanimously voted to suspend the winter seasons after evaluating risks of COVID-19 and safety protocols.
CYCLING

BASEBALL
The Milwaukee Milkmen defeated Sioux Falls, 4-1, Thursday night to clinch the American Association championship series in just their second year as a franchise.
