Marquette learns rest of Big East schedule
The only thing certain about this college basketball season is that you should never look too far into the future.
With teams pausing activities after positive coronavirus tests, matchups are getting postponed or canceled nearly every day.
Still, there must be a schedule, and Marquette learned the plan for the rest of its Big East games on Monday.
The non-conference portion and the first four conference games through December were released in late October.
After playing Villanova at Fiserv Forum on Dec. 23, MU will get a break before playing at Georgetown on Jan. 2. Three days later, the Golden Eagles will face Connecticut at home, the first matchup between the teams since the Huskies rejoined the Big East.
From Jan. 20-Feb. 6, the Golden Eagles will get four of five games at home. But MU will finish with four of its last five games on the road.
Game times and television details will be announced later.
There is a strong likelihood that the league schedule will change weekly. Conference commissioner Val Ackerman has said that the Big East is creating contingency plans on a "bubble" for games, but the league's hope is that the travel model will succeed amid the pandemic.
The Golden Eagles have breaks from Feb. 6-14 and Feb. 20-27 and can move postponed games to those dates. MU also could schedule another non-conference game if it wants.
MU had a two-week pause for a positive coronavirus test in the preseason, but the Golden Eagles haven't had any games postponed or canceled.
But many Big East teams have seen their schedules disrupted. DePaul has yet to play. Xavier, which is scheduled to host MU on Sunday, is currently on pause and will need to reschedule three Big East games. Connecticut also must reschedule three league games.
