Cowboys say McCarthy will return
Cowboys executive vice president
Stephen Jones didn't need to hear the end of the question.
He laughed, cutting off the radio host Monday afternoon, when asked.
“There will be absolutely no change with Coach (Mike) McCarthy,” Jones said on KRLD-FM in Dallas. “I am surprised someone would question Mike, the unprecedented situation everyone's been in. And on top of that, no one's making excuses, but we have had some real challenges in the injury category. If you look at his track record and his pedigree, he's consistently won year in and year out.
“We have the utmost confidence that this ship is going to be righted quickly.”
The Cowboys hired McCarthy in January in hopes he could take what they perceived as a talent-laden roster deep into the postseason. No time for a rebuild with an up-and-coming young coach, 78-year-old owner Jerry Jones said they wanted someone with skins on the wall. McCarthy fit the bill. Across 13 seasons in Green Bay, he compiled a 125-77 (.618) record and earned nine postseason berths.
Despite a slim chance to win the title in a weak NFC East, the Cowboys are 4-9 and have not won consecutive games all season.
Hurts will start again: Jalen Hurts earned another start.
The rookie quarterback will be behind center when the Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1) visit the Arizona Cardinals (6-6) on Sunday.
Hurts led the Eagles to a 24-21 upset over the New Orleans Saints (10-3) in his first career start after replacing
Carson Wentz.
Hurts ran for 106 yards and threw for 167 and one touchdown as Philadelphia snapped New Orleans' ninegame winning streak.
