Player of the week

Tanner Resch, Sussex Hamilton: The 6-foot-1 senior guard led the Chargers to a 3-0 record and had a career-high 49 points in a 90-71 win over Brookfield East on Tuesday. Resch went 3 for 5 from three-point range and didn’t miss any of his 14 free throws. He was 8 for 15 from three-point range in a week that also included wins over Wauwatosa West and Catholic Memorial. His scoring average of 30.7 ranked fifth-highest in the area.

Team of the week

The Lightning gained an early advantage in the Midwest Classic race with an 82-79 win over St. John’s Northweste­rn, a previously undefeated team ranked No. 2 in the wissports.net Division 2 state coaches poll. Junior guard Luke Haertle led the Lightning with a career-high 36 points on 12-for-25 shooting. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out four assists. Noah Howard, a junior guard, went 4 for 7 from three-point range and finished with 14 points. Senior guard/forward Davin Theis added 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Two days later Haertle (30 points, 10 rebounds), junior John Nehls (16 points) and junior Alex Johnson (12) led an 84-30 win over St. Francis at home that left Lutheran with a 6-0 record overall and a 4-0 mark

in the Midwest Classic.
