Player of the week

Allison Hampel, Greenfield: The 5foot-10 sophomore forward averaged 16.5 points and 17 rebounds in two games last week as the Hawks came close to beating South Milwaukee on Tuesday before handing the Rockets their first loss on Friday. The performances were her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season. In a 60-49 win her Woodland East rival, she hit eight of 19 shots and blocked five shots. Seventeen of her 21 points came in the first half when the Hawks grabbed a 10-point lead in a win that put them in a virtual tie for first in the division.

Team of the week

Slinger: Last week the Owls reclaimed the top spot in the North Shore Conference and defeated Kaukauna, the No. 9 team in the wissports.net Division 2 state poll, in non-conference play at Cedarburg’s Niki Doedens Holiday Tournament. Sophomore guard Mallory Hoitink averaged a team-high 16.7 points in the victories with juniors Samantha Gueller (10.7 ppg) and Callie Ziebell (10.3 ppg) also averaging double figures. Hoitink (16 points, four rebounds) and junior Kacey Ott (12 points, 12 rebounds) led the charge Tuesday in a 56-43 win over a West Bend West squad that could have moved into first place with a win. Two days later Hoitink hit 4 three-pointers and scored 23 points in a 56-49 victory over Cedarburg which entered play in third place. Those wins allowed Slinger to extend its winning streak to seven and enter the week with a one-game lead in the North Shore at 6-1 and an 8-3 mark overall.
