Mitchell airport unveils 2 new eateries

- Joe Taschler

Two new eateries have opened at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

“The Garden District Kitchen and Bar and Great American Bagel can be found adjacent to one another on Concourse D,” the airport said in a statement.

Concourse D includes gates for Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

The two restaurants are operated by HMSHost and its Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise partners Newburns Management Group LLC and Apex Business Solutions and Development LLC.

The two eateries are “the latest to open as part of a major refresh to MKE’s food, beverage, and retail offerings,” according to the airport statement.

“The Garden District Kitchen and Bar is a place for travelers to come together, enjoy a drink, and truly embrace the spirit of all things local,” said Airport Director Brian Dranzik, in the statement.

The name is a nod to the Garden District Neighborhood which is on Milwaukee’s south side and includes the airport.

The bar was created using local equipment manufactured by The Perlick Corp. Perlick is a 103-year-old, fifthgeneration family-owned Milwaukee manufacturer of commercial bar and beverage systems, residential undercounter refrigeration and brewery fittings.

The décor of the new airport eatery tells the story of Perlick’s history in Milwaukee.

The Great American Bagel Bakery offers travelers a variety of breakfast options such as bagels, paninis, coffee and more.

Garden District Kitchen and Bar is open daily from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Great American Bagel is open daily from 5 a.m. until 12 p.m. with hours subject to change due to COVID-19, the airport said.

Mitchell is owned and operated by Milwaukee County.
