Vollmer-Matthai, Adele S. – April 4, 1917 to December 6, 2020. Died at the age of 103, of natural causes. Beloved widow of Rolan A. Vollmer and Arno C. Matthai. Also preceded in death by her brother, Walter, her sister, Charlotte, and her mother, Esther. Beloved mother, stepmother, motherin-law of Ellen Vollmer, Barbara (Vollmer) and Tod Ericsson, Richard and Judith Matthai, William and Lisa Matthai. Beloved aunt of Carol (Vollmer) Pope and Nancy Sawyer. “Grandma Dell” to 8 grandchild­ren and 15 great-grandchild­ren. Recipient of Bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University and Master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University. Taught in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, in the 1930s. Also taught Social Studies at Pulaski High and served as reading specialist at Riverside High in Milwaukee Public Schools in late 1960s and early 1970s. Served the City Attorney’s Office of the City of Milwaukee as a legal secretary during the 1940s and early 1950s. Served as church secretary of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in the late 1950s. Was a Girl Scout troop leader as well as founder of a group for parents of special needs children in the 1960s. Retired in the 1970’s with Arnie and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida for the winter months and then enjoyed the summer months at their lake cottage in the U.P. of Michigan. Choir member and very active program participan­t at Zion Lutheran Church in Ft. Myers as well as active supporter of Bethesda Lutheran Home programs for the developmen­tally disabled. Travelled widely and very well read. Became an excellent golfer and played well into her eighties. Long-time resident of Harwood Retirement Community of Wauwatosa, as well as member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. A special thanks to the staff at Harwood Place and The Lutheran Home for their great care and love. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa or The Lutheran Home Foundation in Wauwatosa. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, to protect family and friends, a graveside service will be announced and held at a later date.
