Rodgers throws love to Woodman’s ads

Wisconsin life means ‘legendary’ commercials

Aaron Rodgers has lived in Wisconsin so long those Woodman’s Markets commercials have kind of grown on him.

You know the ones. “Service and savings (insert cash register ka-ching here), it’s Woodman’s.”

The Green Bay Packers quarterback didn’t just drop a reference to them while speaking with the media after Thursday’s practice, he called them “legendary.”

The commercials came up when he was asked if he still goes out to get his own groceries or has them delivered during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I like going into grocery stores. I was just in Woodman’s yesterday and saw (Packers director of player engagement) Grey Ruegamer over there,” he joked.

“I must say I haven’t been to Woodman’s in a while,” Rodgers said. “I do appreciate, I think most of us do, the commercials. Those are legendary in my mind when it comes to 16 years (living in Green Bay). There’s Packers football and then there’s the Woodman commercials as far as most memorable experiences.”

The Janesville-based grocery store chain has locations throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois, including a Green Bay-area store in Howard. Its long-running commercials are rather iconic, or at least a staple of life in Wisconsin.

They feature CEO Phil Woodman and son, company president Clint Woodman, standing in front of a mountain of cases of the featured product, excitedly touting (at least in Phil’s case) the price of whatever is on special.

Phil usually gets in an “¡Ay, caramba!” — as in “¡Ay, caramba! do we have cheap prices on beans and tomatoes.”

Each commercial ends with the spirited Woodman’s equivalent of a “Go Pack Go”: “Better products, better prices, better service, because we’re employeeowned.”

Rodgers said he also enjoys shopping at Fresh Thyme Market in Ashwaubenon, which specializes in organic and natural products.
