VISIT Milwaukee giving $50,000 left over from DNC to hospitality businesses in virtual events
Milwaukee’s visitors’ bureau is giving $50,000 to local businesses through a series of events called Giving Fest, using money left over from the Democratic National Convention this summer.
VISIT Milwaukee is hosting a series of more than 50 virtual events to support the city’s hospitality industry that has been flattened by the coronavirus pandemic.
Milwaukee County hospitality businesses that host an event for Giving Fest will be entered to win $5,000 from VISIT Milwaukee. A total of 50 businesses will receive $1,000.
The virtual event festival runs from Jan. 15 to Feb. 28 with activities like neighborhood tours, cooking demonstrations, performances and trivia games. There will be a fee to attend the events.
VISIT Milwaukee said the Giving Fest funds are left over from what the bureau planned to spend promoting the city during the DNC. Milwaukee was selected as the host city for the 2020 political convention, but the almost entirely virtual event brought few visitors.
