1,606 COVID-19 cases, one more death reported in state Sunday

State health officials reported just one death due to COVID-19 Sunday, one day after Wisconsin recorded its all-time high number of deaths related to the virus. The state Department of Health Services reported 128 deaths Saturday, breaking the previous record on Dec. 22, when 120 people died.

Because of the record, the seven-day average number of deaths Sunday, at 42, was the highest since Christmas, when the average was 52, according to the DHS.

Gov. Tony Evers announced the state will launch mobile vaccinatio­ns teams next week on Friday. Globally, over 2 million people have died since the start of the pandemic and more than 94.7 million people have tested positive.
