Addie Gallun ties record, leads Whitefish Bay to gymnastics title
Addie Gallun etched her name in history Saturday.
The Whitefish Bay senior won three individual titles at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 state meet at Performance Elite Gymnastics in La Crosse to tie former Whitefish Bay/ Shorewood standout Beth Weber's alltime record of 10 championships.
Gallun claimed her third straight allaround title as well as her first in the uneven bars and vault. In winning the allaround title, which she captured with a score of 37.700, she became the third gymnast in D2 history to win the event three times. Gallun's title in the bars (9.650) makes her the second D2 athlete to win four titles in that event.
And to top off the day, she led Bay to its second straight team title and third in four seasons. The Blue Dukes had the high score in the beam, vault and uneven bars on the way to total of 146.5750, the best of either division.
In addition to Gallun's all-around score, which also counted in the team total, the Blue Dukes received all-around performance from junior Kate Graham (36.300). Graham, who qualified for individual state in the all-around, medaled with a sixthplace finish.
Bay wasn't the only big winner Saturday.
The Division 1 meet was held at Wisconsin Rapids and Menomonee Falls/Germantown senior Miranda Knabe won her second straight all-around title. Also the uneven bars champion with a score of 9.5, Knabe, who attends Germantown, tied for fourth in the vault (9.5) and finished eighth in the floor exercise (9.3).
Her total of 37.750 was well ahead of the second-place finisher, Wilmot Co-op junior Annie Murphy (37.425).
There were four other individual area winners Saturday:
* Isabella Bins, a sophomore from Sussex Hamilton, won the vault (9.635) and beam (9.525).
* Murphy won her second straight title in the floor exercise (9.575).
* Oconomowoc junior Kaylee LaFernier shared the vault title with Bins.
* Senior Jadyn Pye shared the bars title with Knabe.
Wilmot Co-op, which also includes athletes from Union Grove and Williams Bay, won the team title with a score of 145.800. That was more than two points better than second-place Arrowhead (143.3750).
The team's top three performers were Murphy, who took second in the allaround, Pye (36.675) and senior Malia Bronson (35.800).
