Foxconn contract lawsuit has been dismissed

A lawsuit that argued Foxconn Technology Group failed to create a high-tech screen plant in Mount Pleasant costing local government­s hundreds of millions of dollars has been dismissed.

The lawsuit, filed by Caledonia resident Daniel Hintz and Hintz Real Estate Developmen­t Co. in February, claimed that Foxconn is in breach of its contract. The lawsuit claimed that Foxconn had not constructe­d a Generation 10.5 LCD manufactur­ing facility, employed local workers in manufactur­ing and constructi­on “to the extent agreed,” and failed to make capital investment­s in the county and

Court records show that the case was dismissed Friday.

The lawsuit, which listed Racine County and the Village of Mount Pleasant as defendants along with Foxconn, said it was filed on behalf of the county and village.

The Village of Mount Pleasant and Racine County issued a one-sentence joint statement in response to the dismissal of the lawsuit.

“We are pleased this issue was quickly resolved and look forward to continued progress and partnershi­p on the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park,” the Village of Mount Pleasant and Racine County said in the statement.

Foxconn’s media representa­tive did not respond to a reporter’s question Monday.

The lawsuit said the local government­s had spent $200 million on land acquisitio­n, $185 million on the developmen­t of water and sewer lines and $12 million on roads to prepare for the project.
