2 drivers arrested after crashes on I-94 in Racine County
A suspected drunken driver crashed into a sheriff deputy's vehicle, and a fleeing driver was tasered by a deputy following a car pursuit in separate incidents in Racine County on Monday.
In the end, two people were arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and a deputy suffered minor injuries as about an inch of wet snow fell on Racine County.
A Ford Taurus hit a pickup truck and fled south on I-94 shortly after 5 p.m., according to the sheriff 's office.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop after the vehicle exited the interstate, but the driver would not cooperate, the sheriff's office said. Snow- and slushcovered roads forced deputies to end the pursuit, but a deputy located the suspect vehicle parked near County Highways K and H.
While being ordered out of the vehicle, the driver began reaching back into the car, so a deputy deployed a taser and took him into custody.
The driver is facing tentative charges of operating while intoxicated-fourth offense, recklessly endangering safety, resisting or obstructing arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of THC, the sheriff's office said.
Then, at 7:45 p.m., while deputies were investigating another crash along I-94 near Highway G, another car crashed into a tow truck and a squad car, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The deputy and another individual were in the squad car, and the deputy was injured, the release said. The tow truck operators were not hurt.
The State Patrol arrested the driver under suspicion of driving while intoxicated and located drugs and paraphernalia in the car.
