Therapist accused of sexual exploitation

- Elliot Hughes

A Milwaukee substance abuse counselor has been accused of sexually exploiting three patients between 41 and 84 years old and threatening the oldest with a gun.

George O. Ramsey III, 61, faces three counts of felony sexual exploitation by a therapist and more than 37 years in prison if convicted. He is in the Milwaukee County Jail with cash bail set at $35,000, according to online court records. The first two allegations were logged in 2018 while Ramsey worked for Achievement Associates Clinic, at 5228 W. Fond Du Lac Ave., according to the criminal complaint. The last was reported March 1 at a clinic run by Ramsey, called New Beginnings Wellness Center, at 3500 N. Sherman Blvd.

A phone number for Achievement Associates Clinic appeared disconnected Tuesday. New Beginnings did not immediately return a request for comment.

Two women ages 52 and 41 reported Ramsey’s behavior four months apart in 2018. Both came to him either with mental health or substance abuse issues and said Ramsey made inappropriate remarks to them before assaulting them, according to the complaint.

At the time, Ramsey denied having sexual contact with the first victim, but it is unclear from the criminal complaint if he was interviewed after the second allegation surfaced.

Then, an 84-year-old woman said on March 1 she was assaulted, threatened and forced to perform a sex act on Ramsey during their second appointment together, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim told police that, during the assault, Ramsey opened a desk drawer and pointed at a firearm inside, the complaint said. He also told her that he likes women with mental illnesses and drug dependencies, according to the complaint.

The woman eventually escaped by suggesting they meet in a hotel room later that day.

When asked by police if he had

sexual contact with the woman, Ramsey started to nod until he noticed his lawyer indicated he should answer “no,” the complaint said. He later blamed his patients’ mental illnesses and the “Me Too” movement for false allegations of sexual assault.

He also denied possessing a firearm, the complaint said. In 2003, Ramsey was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon.
