SHEBOYGAN - If you order a beer at the new bar opening on the shores of Lake Michigan, you may want to watch as your glass gets filled.

Bar 43 — a nod to Sheboygan’s latitude on the 43rd parallel north — will be located inside the Harbor Centre Marina and plans to open the first weekend of April. It will be open to everyone, not just boaters, said General Manager Matt Bauer.

Inside, there will be a 12-person bar and cozy seating with a fireplace and TV. Outside, there are patios on the second and third levels with overlooking views of the water, comfortable seating and fire tables for those chilly fall and spring nights.

Bauer said there will also be a draft system that fills the beer glasses from the bottom up. It is designed to leave each glass with the perfect amount of foam at the top and creates a more exact fill to avoid sticky overflow messes.

Each pint glass has a hole on the bottom that is covered with a magnet. When the glass is set on the top, it lifts the magnet and fills the glass with beer. Not only is this fun to watch, Bauer said, but it’s easy for the bartenders, so they can work on multiple drinks at a time.

Bar 43 will have six beers on tap, Bauer said, and they plan to focus on local

beers, like those from 3 Sheeps Brewery. There will also be wines, cocktails and some options for non-alcoholic beers and cocktails.

Throughout April, Bauer said, the bar will be open on weekends, but hours will increase as the season warms up. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the plan is to be open seven days a week.

In the winter, when the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor seating and the boating

season has wrapped up, Bauer said space could be used to host a private party or a small wedding.

The Harbor Centre Marina is a fullservice marina with amenities for boaters like a fish-cleaning station, a hot tub, gas grills and private docks. Since it’s a public building, Bauer said, they have been working to enhance it over the past few years for non-boaters to enjoy.

Inside the building are concessions, a gift shop with Sheboygan-themed gifts and an ice cream shop that is open all year.

Bar 43 will be located at 821 Broughton Drive in Sheboygan. Hours will vary depending on the season.
