Zielinski sells Bay View mansion for $1.6 million
Former Alderman Tony Zielinski has sold his headline-grabbing Milwaukee mansion for $1.63 million.
That’s down more than 20% from the original asking price of $2.1 million.
The Bay View house was purchased by Shane Zweck, a 36-year-old associate portfolio manager for the Special Global Equity team at Wells Fargo Asset Management. The sale was completed last week. Zweck declined to comment on his purchase.
On the deed, Zielinski is listed as living in Orlando, Fla.
Dubbed the “Milwaukee
Monstrosity” because of its size and location, the house is hard to miss in its quiet residential neighborhood.
The three-story home sits on an eighth-acre lot squeezed among postWorld War I bungalows and colonials near Bay View Park.
City Hall records show that Zielinski and his wife, Annette, bought a 1921 two-story, five-bedroom colonial at the address in March 2017 for $330,000 — razing it shortly thereafter. The pair then took out a $700,000 construction mortgage.
In place of its modest predecessor, the Zielinskis put up the 40-foot-tall modernist mansion with 5,901 square feet of finished living space.
“This contemporary style home ticks all of the boxes for modern luxury living,” the real estate listing said.
The three-bedroom, four-bath house includes an elevator, gym, office with a nine-foot rolling library ladder, three fireplaces and solar panels. The residence has a “zen garden” on the deck above the garage and a luxury bath with a Japanese soaking tub and steam shower.
On the front, the mansion features floor-to-ceiling windows with remote shades and a clear view of Lake Michigan.
Zielinski, who was first elected to public office in 1988, started construction on the home while he was running for Milwaukee mayor, drawing even more attention to the project.
He finished a distant third in the 2020 mayoral primary, picking up only 16% of the vote. He did not run for reelection for his 14th District alderman seat, now held by Ald. Marina Dimitrijevic.
