- Jordyn Noennig

Milwaukee’s Third Space Brewing will expand its distribution statewide for the first time since the brewery opened five years ago.

The craft brewery announced the expansion in a news release, which said it will distribute to many new Wisconsin cities including La Crosse, Eau Claire, Hudson Superior, Stevens Point, Wausau and Minocqua.

In 2020 the brewery, located at 1505 W. St. Paul Ave. began expanding to northeastern Wisconsin.

The brewery said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, sales grew 23%, selling 10,695 barrels of beer in 2020.

The goal of statewide expansion is to sell 14,000 barrels of beer in 2021, the news release said.

The expansion will launch on April 5 anchored by Third Space Brewing’s year-round brews such as Happy Place Midwestern Pale Ale, Upward Spiral IPA, Light It Up Craft Lager, Frog Weiss Fruited Sour and Unite the Clans Scottish Ale.

The new territories will also see distribution of Third Space Brewing’s new year-round Heavenly Haze, along with various new and returning seasonal and special releases.

“We have taken an organic approach to our growth, ensuring we can first meet the demand for our products in existing markets while allowing demand to sufficiently build in new territories before expanding further,” Andy Gehl, Third Space Brewing co-founder and president, said in the news release.

In 2018, Third Space Brewing was named one of the 50 fastest growing craft breweries in the United States by the Brewers Association, at the time selling 5,300 barrels of beer in southeastern Wisconsin. The brewery grew to 8,700 barrels in 2019.

Third Space will expand its partnerships with three Wisconsin wholesalers to take its beers statewide: Dean Distributing across northern Wisconsin, General Beer in parts of central Wisconsin and Beechwood Sales & Service in western, northwestern and portions of central Wisconsin.
