Seven-day new COVID-19 case average up slightly
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported a subtle rise in the seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. The average was 452, up 65 from Tuesday.
This is the highest seven-day average since March 5. There were 776 new cases recorded on Wednesday. The state had a delay in its data release on Tuesday and that may have played a role in Wednesday’s high number.
“It’s hard to make much out of one day. Nonetheless there are other signs more generally that an increase in cases may be coming,” said Ben Weston, director of medical services at the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management.
The more concerning signs are that 30 states have seen an increase in cases and that Milwaukee County continues to see a subtle but significant uptick in cases, according to Weston.
The county’s seven-day average of new cases has ticked up since March 13, when it was about 62, according to the county’s dashboard. On March 19, the most recent data displayed, the sevenday average had reached about 82.
