Agee leaving King Drive BID to join Emem Group as vice president

- Talis Shelbourne

Deshea Agee, credited with helping lead a revival of King Drive, will join the Milwaukee-based real estate firm Emem Group as vice president on June 14.

He recently announced that he was leaving his job as executive director of Milwaukee’s Historic King Drive Business Improvement District this month.

Emem Group was founded by owner and president Michael Emem in 2014 and launched full-time in 2020. The organization specializes in commercial real estate as well as residential architecture and construction management.

Agee’s role in the company will focus on project and developer management of the firm’s commercial projects, as well as streamlining internal processes to make the company more efficient.

The two said that working together was the natural progression of a friendship that started 15 years ago. Emem, a 2015 graduate of the Associates in Commercial Real Estate (ACRE) program and Agee, an inaugural ACRE grad, met while they were both at Cross Management Service.

“This was an opportunity for me to join a great firm with a dynamic leader and have an impact,” Agee said.

With the Emem Group’s offices just a block away from King Drive, Agee will still have a front-row seat to the business district he once ran as he works with Emem Group to focus on Milwaukee’s north side and beyond.

“I believe both Deshea and I are equally passionate about the inner city of Milwaukee and real estate (and) economic development in general,” Emem said. “But we’re not going to preclude ourselves from pursuing real estate development outside the inner city of Milwaukee; we’re going to focus on greater Milwaukee as a whole.”
