5 things you probably should be doing in Milwaukee this weekend
With the world continuing to open up, we’re all looking for stuff we can do that isn’t inside our own houses — safely, of course. Here’s a starter kit for this weekend’s to-do list. 1. Greek Fest Drive-Thru
For the first time since 2005, Greek Fest returns home to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 9400 W. Congress St. But because of COVID-19, it’ll be a drive-thru — no rides, no performances, but lots of Greek food favorites, from gyros to baklava. The sixlane drive-thru is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 11-12, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 13. Info: Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church’s Facebook page. 2. Spain on the lakefront
Spain’s grip on the American imagination is on view in “Americans in Spain: Painting and Travel, 18201920,” the first exhibition to open in the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Baker/ Rowland Galleries since the pandemic began. The show, co-organized with the Chrysler Museum of Art, opens June 11; admission is $19, $17 for students, seniors 65 and older and members of the military; and free for museum members and kids 12 and younger. Info: mam.org. 3. Downsized Garlic Fest
There will be no Garlic Fest in Walker’s Point this summer. (Stupid COVID.) But fest organizer Braise is hosting a Garlic-Infused Block Party outside the restaurant at 1101 S. Second St. The bash, with green-garlic bloody marys, pork buns with garlic aioli and more, runs from 5 to 9 p.m. June 11. Info: Braise’s Facebook page. 4. Drive-thru dairy farm
Celebrate all things dairy at Dairy Destination, a new drive-thru tour from 7 to 11 a.m. June 12 at Sunset Farms, 6600 Sunset Drive in Allenton. Activities include a drive through a 600-cow barn, a “dairy dream box” with dairy-centric snacks, a trivia
game and more. The tour, hosted by the Washington County Dairy Promotion Committee, costs $20 per carload. Info: washingtoncountydairy.com.
5. Margarita Fest
Bottlehouse 42, the spot formerly known as Glass + Griddle at 1130 N. 9th St., is the site of this year’s Margarita Fest. There will be two sessions on June 12, one at 11 a.m., the other at 2 p.m. At each, participants receive a dozen (or more) margarita samples, with munchies and other stuff. Tickets are $28 per session (21 and older only). Masks are required when not sampling. Info: shepherdexpress.com/upcoming-events/ margarita-festival.
