Bucks starting night market in Deer District

The Milwaukee Bucks are starting a night market in the Deer District outside Fiserv Forum.

The Deer District Market will take over the plaza outside Fiserv Forum eight times this summer, the Bucks announced in a news release Tuesday. The first market will be 5 to 9 p.m. July 28.

The Deer District Market will bring together small food businesses with a focus on minority-owned businesses. Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin health network is the leading sponsor.

“We're pleased to partner with Deer District and the Milwaukee Bucks to bring this fun, new event to downtown in a way that promotes healthy eating and support for local food business,” said David Olson, senior vice president and chief strategy and business developmen­t officer, in the news release. “Deer District Market will bring healthy nutritious options within walking distance to more of our community and promote a healthier lifestyle by offering nutritious food choices and education.”

Nearly all of the night markets will be on Wednesdays: Aug. 4, Aug. 11, Aug. 25, Sept. 1, Sept. 8 and Sept. 15. The final Deer District Market of the season will be Saturday, Sept. 25.

The Milwaukee Night Market on Wisconsin Avenue, which started in 2014, will take place just once this summer on Aug. 18.

The creator of the PBS show “Wisconsin Foodie“Arthur Ircink will manage the Deer District Market. Ircink is one of the founders of the Shorewood Farmers Market in Estabrook Park.

“I'm honored to bring my experience and connection­s to Deer District to create something new and exciting, building off of all the recent momentum in the district while supporting small business,” Ircink said in the news release.
