Cedarburg cocktails walking tour travels back to Prohibitio­n era

Prohibitio­n-era spirits are on the Cedarburg Cultural Center’s “Cocktails Dahling” walking tour July 24 or Aug. 14.

The three-hour docent-led tour includes six sample-size drinks, starting with the Mary Pickford cocktail at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. The tour will then visit the Stagecoach Inn to sample the Bee’s Knees, Frannie’s Market for the Bamboo, then the Kuhefuss House Museum for both the Pink Squirrel and the Corpse Reviver. The tour will conclude at the Cedarburg Cultural Center for the final drink, The First Cocktail.

We’re not the big cheese (eater)

Milwaukee’s cheese consumptio­n ranks way back at No. 7 in the Midwest, according to a top 10 list from Crystal Farms Dairy Co. But we do like our string cheese.

Milwaukee’s cheese consumptio­n rose 12% in 2020 from 2019, with residents consuming the most mozzarella cheese in the Midwest. Milwaukee also ranks first in the Midwest for string cheese consumptio­n, and second in the whole country.

Cincinnati holds the top spot in the Midwest for pounds of cheese per capita, according to Nielsen sales data,

Dashfire coming to Wisconsin

The Minnesota-based bitters and cocktail company is bringing its readyto-drink cocktails and hard coffees to Wisconsin later this year. The highproof, single-serve cans are based on popular classics and feature base spirits combined with Dashfire-made extracts and bitters.

Capitol Husting will be distributi­ng the Bourbon Old Fashioned, the Chai White Russian, and a Manhattan with Black Mission fig and Cascara cherry, in both cans and 750-milliliter bottles. P is for Portillo’s

The Chicago restaurant brand has introduced a spicy children’s book inspired by giardinier­a, the spicy pickled relish topping for Italian beef sandwiches.

“G is for Giardinier­a” is being released to encourage summer reading and complement the brand’s new Spicy Chicken Sandwich, which sports the hot sauce. The alphabet book gives young readers an ABCs lesson using menu photos, such as Chocolate Cake, Hot Dogs and Giardinier­a.

The book is priced at $15, and proceeds from the sale go to The Heart of

Mason Street Grill wine dinner

The Milwaukee restaurant at 425 E. Mason St. is offering a five-course dinner paired with wines from Copper Cane Wines & Provisions on July 16.

The menu features asparagus and crab paired with a blush pink Elouan Rose 2020 from Oregon, and herbroaste­d lamb with eggplant paired with a 2018 Quilt Cabernet. Additional wine pairings include a Quilt Chardonnay 2017, Belle Glos Clark & Telephone and Quilt Reserve Cabernet 2015.

Night on the Farm

Stone Bank Farm invites families to enjoy an evening of outdoor fun July 15 or Aug. 12. The farm’s Kitchen team will offer a variety of seasonal salads and grilled items, LeDuc’s custard, and assorted beverages available for purchase. The evening will feature live music, tractor rides and games.
