Rise in COVID cases linked to Deer District gatherings
COVID-19 related hospitalizations and average new cases increased on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health Services and Wisconsin Hospitals Association.
The seven-day average of daily cases increased for the 28th consecutive day, up to 854, up 778 cases from a month ago.
The number of people hospitalized increased to 341 patients, up 262 from a month ago.
The increases come at a time when Milwaukee health officials are beginning to connect the massive crowds gathering at the Deer District for the NBA Finals to the growing case numbers.
Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson said the contact tracing and testing for cases associated with Deer District gatherings are ongoing. She said the Milwaukee Health Department has been working closely with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and has identified 491 cases statewide.
She urged people to get tested if they have attended any large gatherings.
And Froedtert Health announced Tuesday it is requiring staff and providers to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1.
