Woman killed in Hartford plane crash identified
The woman who died in Saturday’s plane crash in Hartford has been identified as Kylie Murray of Lake Forest, Illinois.
Auburn University’s Student Affairs website posted a message announcing that a memorial flag in Murray’s memory will be displayed at the Melton Student Center on Auburn’s campus.
Murray had recently finished her junior year at Auburn, where she played on the women’s club soccer team, participated in Greek life and worked as a lifeguard. She was working toward a degree in Aviation Management, and was licensed as a pilot and flight instructor by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Murray started her job as a flight instructor at Cub Air Flight in Hartford in May. Cub Air instructors teach in smaller and older plane models, such as Cessna 150s and J3-Cubs.
One of Murray’s roommates, Rebecca Duncan, made an Aug. 2 Facebook post about Murray that read, “For those who don’t know, Kylie Murray, one of my best friends and roommates, passed away two days ago in an accident... We are in a state of numbness and mourning but knowing her life was lived to the fullest is filling our hearts with warmness and comfort. Going to miss this bright light.”
After the plane crashed at 11:22 a.m. Saturday, just west of Hartford Municipal Airport, reports said a woman and man were injured. The man had been piloting the plane, a Piper Cub J3C-65 fixed-wing single-engine aircraft.
Murray was taken to the LifeNet hangar at the municipal airport before she was flown by LifeNet to Aurora Medical Center in Summit.
On Sunday, the Washington County Sheriff reported the woman had died. The sheriff’s department has not released names because the crash is under investigation.
