Player of the week

Michael Hammond, Living Word Lutheran: The junior forward had a pair of three-goal games, Wednesday in a 12-0 win over Dodgeland and Friday in a 3-3 tie with Brookfield Academy. Against Brookfield Academy he battled leg cramps during the final 25 minutes to help preserve a tie against a team that last year had beaten Living Word, 10-0.

Team of the week

Elkhorn: The first week of the season was successful for the Elks, who opened with a 1-0 victory over defending Classic 8 champion Oconomowoc and finished with a 3-2 win over Cedarburg, both on the road. Junior forward Ray Beilman scored goals in both games. Junior Beau Hanson and freshman Rey Paniagua found the back of the net against Cedarburg.

Coming up

Mukwonago at Elkhorn, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: A non-conference matchup between teams that both enjoyed a strong opening to the season.

Gusho Showcase at Brookfield East,

Friday and Saturday: Many of the state's top programs will be on hand. Among the games to watch will be Arrowhead vs. Marquette, 7:30 p.m. Friday; Brookfield East vs. Muskego, 7:30 p.m. Friday; Bay vs. Arrowhead, 9 a.m. Saturday and Brookfield Central vs. Muskego, 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
