Two of six Wisconsini­tes charged have pleaded guilty in Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack

Two of the six Wisconsin residents charged with taking part in the Jan. 6 insurrecti­on at the U.S. Capitol have pleaded guilty, including one who witnessed the fatal shooting of a woman who was trying to climb through a window.

David Mish, 41, of West Allis, pleaded guilty Monday to parading, demonstrat­ing or picketing in a Capitol building. The offense carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a fine of $5,000. Sentencing is set for Nov. 18.

On Jan. 7, Mish contacted the D.C. Metropolit­an Police Department and said he had informatio­n about the death of Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by a Capitol Police officer as she tried to climb through a broken window into the Speaker's Lobby, which would have given rioters access to the House of Representa­tives chamber.

Abram Markofski, 24, an Army National Guard member from La Crosse, pleaded guilty to the same charge on Wednesday. His sentencing is set for Dec. 3.

Markofski traveled to Washington, D.C., with Brandon Nelson of Madison. Nelson, who was also charged, is scheduled to enter a guilty plea Sept 15.

Other Wisconsin residents charged include Michael Fitzgerald of Janesville,Kevin Loftus of Eau Claire and Joshua Munn of Melrose.

Fitzgerald, who faces felony counts among his charges, has a status hearing set for Sept. 14. Loftus is set for a status hearing Sept. 28, and Munn, who is charged along with several family members from Texas, has a status hearing Sept. 24.

None of the six Wisconsin defendants has been held in custody while their cases are pending.

More than 590 people around the country have been arrested in connection with the deadly attack on the Capitol, some charged with felonies, while investigat­ors continue searching for others involved in violence during the hours-long event.
