PICKING THE WINNERS

-

After squeaking one out against the rough-andtumble Ravens, the Packers get to slug it out with the Browns, who have two good road wins (Minnesota, Cincinnati) but have lost their last three away from home. Assuming Baker Mayfield and a bunch of others are back from the reserve/ COVID-19 list, this will be a tougher game than most are expecting.

Both teams have plenty to play for — the Browns probably need to win out to make the playoffs, the Packers for the No. 1 seed. But the Browns' extra-short week is especially tough because even if their COVID-19 list clears up, their best defensive player (Myles Garrett, groin) looks iffy at best. The guess here is MVP front-runner Aaron Rodgers and the Packers keep rolling.

The Browns had an astounding 19 players on reserve/COVID-19 at the start of the week, six more on injured reserve. They're playing a short week ... on the road ... on Christmas. If someone gives you a gift like that for Christmas, you best not give it back. The Packers won't, and they'll add Aaron Rodgers breaking Brett Favre's career TD pass record as a nice bow on top.

There's something to be said for a desperate team with its back against the wall. The Browns are on the fringe of the playoff picture, with potentially a slew of guys returning from COVID-19 to the playing field, playing on Christmas Day. This game could easily turn into a dog fight. Still, the better-equipped team wins in the end.
